Enter the Matrix was one of the years most anticipated games, but
not without reason Imagine being Neo carrying out brilliant slow motion kicks.
Or being Trinity helping Neo carry out the daring raid to save Morpheus. Yup
sure sounds good apart from the fact that you can't actually do any of these
things. You can either be Ghost who is deadly if you stick any kind of gun into
his grubby mitts and does all the shooting in the driving based sections. Or you
can be Niobe who is a dab hand at martial arts and does all the driving in the
driving sections. Agent Smith also makes an appearance and you really get a
sense of fear just like the movies!
The main selling point of the game is undoubtedly the slow motion
mode called "focus mode" which slows down time and allows you to run up walls
and perform cartwheels. At first this works well giving the sense that you
really are in the Matrix universe, but after a while it all proves to be a
gimmick with the novelty wearing off. The missions are very short and I couldn't
believe my eyes when one mission consisted of running down a straight corridor
to a door 30ft. away, no enemies or other obstacles just to reach the door! This
adds to the games difficulty which is very easy even in hard mode meaning the
seasoned gamer can easily complete this in a weekend. The enemies don't do
anything for the difficulty with incredibly dumb AI who can often be found
running into walls and other objects, they are also a very lousy shot. Just in
case they do manage to hit your health bar regenerates! So during a boss fight
just hide behind an object and wait for your health to go back up. This adds to
the easiness of the game further
The graphics to put it simply are crap with dull, lifeless
textures to be found throughout the game. The graphics are even worse in the
driving sections with the textures looking worse than graphics in a game made
about 2 or 3 years ago.
Overall: Enter the Matrix is fun for
a while however it soon gets boring. Worth a rent
